In 2006, I researched and wrote Colorado's Classic Mountain Towns, a guidebook about some of my favorite ski towns in the world. Along the way, I got to flyfish the Fraser river, attend the Telluride Film Festival, stay at the Ritz-Carleton Bachelor Gulch, drink beer at the Minturn Inn and the Eldo and the Red Onion and the Last Dollar, run the Steamboat half-marathon, and hike to the highest named pass in Colorado. Along the way, I learned more than I ever thought I would about kiddie mazes, pack outfitters, pancakes, powder stashes, and coffee shops—and put 7,000 miles on my 1992 Honda Accord.

The official jacket copy: Colorado's spectacular ski towns—like Aspen, Vail, Telluride, and Crested Butte—offer far more than just skiing: they offer some of the best hiking, mountain biking, fishing, shopping, dining, and lodging in the world, and all year round to boot. Author Evelyn Spence, a former editor of Skiing magazine and an avid outdoorswoman, has turned the state's classic mountain spots upside down to find quirky annual festivals, superb Rocky Mountain cuisine, historic B&B's, trout-filled streams, powder-choked runs, Manhattan-worthy shopping, and jaw-dropping drives. Whether you want to sleep under the stars or inside a toasty mountain lodge, this guide will help you plan the ultimate Colorado mountain experience.
